Sewing Pillows

In this example I use scraps of fabrics to create a Christmas quilt pillow. You may recognize some of the fabric from other sewing projects around TheDIYeffect.com (previously RetroSewing.net).  I'm not a quilter and it's probably obvious to any expert quilters out there. This example is done by a newbie quilter. Like the old days, I used what I already had, and minimal tools. I used;

Sewing Pillows

A. In this example, I'm using fleece, flannel, and some odds and ends. Since the fleece is much thicker then the flannel, I added some batting to help even it out. The batting in photo A is being cut into square the same size as the flannel.

B. After cutting and arranging them according to my taste, I start to sew them right sides together using 1/2 inch seam.

C. Once the blocks are all sewn together I attach a border. I cut 4 strips of fabric like the strip to the right in the photo above.

D. At the top of this photo you will see one of the border strips laying right sides together. The strip at the bottom of the photo is already sewn on.

A Once all the strips and blocks are sewn together, I cut a large fleece block for the back of the pillow. Notice the red fleece under the blocks.

B. Now I do a test fitting on the pillow. I'm making a 5/8th seam allowance around the sides of the pillow.

C. Preparing the front and back of the pillow. Trim, clean up, final measurements, etc.
